Testimonies of the summer

Our first two weeks of club are over, and boy did we have some funny kids!

One teacher asked for a review question, "What did the Messiah come to do?" He spread out his arms as a clue. One little boy exclaimed, "Fly??"

Another teacher asked, "What did they [the Romans] do to Jesus?" One boy got really excited and said "Ooh! Ooh! I saw the movie!" He then proceeded to list everything that had happened to Jesus when he died.

A teacher was telling the story of Hudson Taylor on Thursday (the end of the story that had been going on all week), when a girl suddenly asked, "was he real?" The teacher assured her that Hudson was real, and she frowned. "Is he dead?"

(This from the girl who had asked earlier in the week if one of the summer missionaries had met Hudson Taylor. I guess that works. :)

On the last day of club, the missionary telling the Hudson Taylor story shared that Hudson had been praying for God to send 100 missionaries to China. A 6-year-old boy was shocked by this piece of news. He turned to the teacher sitting next to him and exclaimed, "That's a whoooole lot!"

The teachers were encouraged to see God at work. One summer missionary said, "I was encouraged today because 3 kids came to our first club when they hadn't been planning to." Another said, "our hostess continues to encourage us with the good things she's heard from parents about 5-day club." One big deal this last week was rain and over-heating. One teacher said, "it drizzled all the way to club in the morning. My team and I (and we found out later, the hostess) prayed for better weather... The sun came out right as club started."

The biggest encouragement for us as we teach is seeing kids come to Christ.

On Monday, in the park where they were having club, one of the missionaries went over to where some kids were playing and asked if she could tell them the Wordless Book. One of the girls who listened to the story decided to accept Christ as her Savior!

At that same club on Wednesday, a girl who had never attended club before accepted Christ.

Another club in the area saw a little girl who had come to club all week believe in Jesus as her Savior. It was Friday morning, and she seemed even more interested in the story than usual. Afterwards she sat by a tree with one of the teachers and read Acts 16:31. This little girl told her other teachers afterward that she had all her sins taken away by Jesus - she knew she was saved!

These stories are a taste of what the summer missionaries of Western Wisconsin are getting to see this summer. Will you pray for them as they continue to minister to kids in backyards and parks throughout the area?
